The course provides tools for producing oral academic presentations in English. It looks at argumentation, structure and rhetorical presentation of contents, as well as diction, gesticulation, time control and proper use of visual support media. The definitive aim is to increase levels of confidence and competence when it comes to speaking in public in academic and professional settings.
The research, transfer and entrepreneurship courses qualify for free elective credit recognition on bachelor's degree programmes. If you are studying a doctoral degree at any university and have been awarded a competitive grant, you can also take them as part of your training component.

Objectives

The main objective of the course is:
  • Design and present an effective academic presentation.

Competencies

  • Learn what an effective academic presentation involves and how to design one.
  • Produce clear, coherent and properly structured oral texts, adapting them to the right academic or professional register and to the needs and characteristics of the audience. 
  • Apply critical thinking to the description and analysis of the oral discourse.
  • Know how to interact with the audience and how to prepare for their questions.
  • Gain resources and strategies for public speaking and put them into practice in formal settings.
