The Spanish A1.1 course for beginners is equivalent to the first half of level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Credits: 4 ECTS

Length: 100 hours

Date: 20 September 2017

Certificate: Spanish A1.1

Who is it for?

Spanish A1.1 is aimed especially at students with no prior knowledge of Spanish.

You will need to devote 100 hours' study time to the course (8 hours per week), divided into individual study, virtual classroom participation and assessed activities. There is no final exam: you can pass this subject with continuous work throughout the semester.

Learn in a digital environment that fosters language skills by practicing reading, writing, listening and speaking. You will use Spanish with your fellow classmates and learn using self-study resources. Your instructor will guide you at all times in the virtual classroom and will give you feedback on the course activities.

You are free to organise your studies according to your needs and time availability. However, you will be continuously assessed by means of activities - both individual and in groups, oral and written - of which you will be informed on the first day of the course.

Objectives and competencies

On completion of this course and the next one (A1.2) you will be a basic language user and will be able to:

  • Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases.
  • Refer to topics and issues of most immediate relevance.
  • Ask and answer basic questions.
  • Interact in a simple way using basic vocabulary.
