The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) has developed the programme on Management of Skin Neglected Tropical Diseases.
Credits: 10 ECTS
Start: 17 October 2018
Degree: Management of Skin Neglected Tropical Diseases
Students will have update information on the epidemiology and surveillance, natural history, diagnostic and treatment strategies of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (CL), Leprosy (L), Buruli Ulcer (BU) and Yaws (Y).
Control disease aspects will also be addressed in line with the WHO regional or global frameworks for the control of the four diseases. Students will analyse and discuss strategies to implement control activities.
They will be trained on how to detect the diseases and chose the best available treatment strategies through the resolution of several clinical cases, based on real clinical life in endemic areas, so that they will obtain a strong base for prophylaxis, diagnosis and treatment. The information obtained will be useful for their daily practice.
General Overview of skin lesions and NTDs (3 ECTS credits)
The five best students passing the course from low and middle income countries, will be invited and sponsored for a 10-day on-the-job training in a WHO collaborating institution in an endemic country in Africa or Asia.
