Law Degree (J.D.) by the University of Barcelona (1983-1988). Master of Laws (LLM) by the Columbia University Law School, New York (1992-1993). Doctor in Law (J.S.D.) cum laude, with the thesis "The international protection of audiovisual works. Questions related to authorship. Special reference to the legal systems of Spain and the United States of America", by the University of Barcelona (November 1997). Visiting Scholar at the Columbia University Law School, New York (June 2000-July 2001). Professor of law at the UOC School of Law and Political Science since June 1997, and Director of its Law Program since February 2002.

Ana S. Cardenal

PhD in Political Science from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Diploma in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University (SAIS-Bologna). She has been a professor of Political Science at the UOC¿s Law and Political Science Department since 2001. Between 1999 and 2001, she was a consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) at the Central American Secretariat for Economic Integration (Guatemala). She has been a visiting researcher at the Center for Central American Studies at Stanford University (1993-1995) and a Fulbright Fellow at New York University (2004). Her current research interests lie at the intersection of political science and political communication. Specifically, her research has recently focused on the impact of digital technologies on information consumption patterns, opinion formation, and voting behavior. On these topics she has several publications in international scientific journals. She is part of the European network of political communication researchers NEPOCS.

IBEI Directors

Jacint Jordana

PhD in Economics (University Barcelona, 1992). Professor of Political Science and Public Administration at Pompeu Fabra University. His research mainly focuses on the analysis of public policies, with special emphasis on regulatory policy and regulatory governance. He has been a visiting fellow at the Copenhagen Business School, the Australian National University, the WZB Berlin Social Science Center, the University of California, San Diego, and the University of Konstanz. From 2005 to 2010 he was co-chair (together with David Levi-Faur) of the ECPR Standing Group on Regulatory Governance. He is currently director of the Institut Barcelona d¿Estudis Internacionals (IBEI), an inter-university research institute devoted to international studies.

Robert Kissack

At IBEI since 2008, his research profile is at the intersection of the foreign policy of the European Union (EU) and international organisation. More specifically, it has centred on the EU as an actor in the multilateral system and my book Pursuing Effective Multilateralism¿ (Palgrave 2010) was one of the first in this field. Specialised in examining the capacity of the EU to operate in many different multilateral organisations, including the ILO, FAO, UN General Assembly and Security Council, the WTO and the IMF. He has worked in two research projects in this area, EU-Perform (funded by the European Science Foundation) and EUN-NET, a brand new Jean Monnet Network (2017-2019)
